In 2020, Hemphill Street (from Hammond Street to Vickery Blvd) was restriped from five lanes to three lanes to support safety and multimodal access.
The City of Fort Worth met with the community in April to discuss options set forth in a transportation study, in response to requests from the community and the City Council to study the corridor due to increasing congestion and operational constraints.
This corridor spans Council Districts 9 and 11.
Three scenarios were evaluated to understand how different configurations perform under current and future conditions.
No Change (3 lanes): Keep the existing configuration with one travel lane in each direction and a center turn lane, which maintains bike lanes, on-street parking, and bus pull-offs.
Hybrid (5 to 3 lanes transition): Five lanes south of Allen Avenue transitioning to three lanes north of Allen Avenue, which removes bike lanes, on-street parking, and bus pull-offs south of Allen Avenue.
Full Capacity (5 lanes): Restores a five-lane cross section with a center turn lane, with a four-lane segment where constrained, which removes bike lanes, on-street parking, and bus pull-offs.
As stated in April, the team will not make any changes prior to meeting with the community again, updating them on the feedback received, and providing a final recommendation. Based on initial feedback on the options, we are also including a Modified Hybrid Option to provide feedback on the survey.
Modified Hybrid (5 to 3 lanes transition): Five lanes south of Berry Street transitioning to three lanes north of Berry Street, which removes bike lanes, on-street parking, and bus pull-offs south of Berry Street.
Anticipated timeline:
Survey Feedback: June 15 to July 15.
Presentation on Final Recommendation: Mid-August
Restriping Project: Early 2027.
