Background
The floodplain mapping along Eastland Creek was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 1984. Since then, changes in development, rainfall, and flood risk mapping methods have created the need to update the maps so residents and businesses can better understand the actual flood risk along the creek.
The mapping update will improve flood risk communication to help residents make more informed decisions regarding their property, and it helps the City identify and prioritize maintenance and capital improvement needs along the creek. However, it will also affect Development regulations and flood insurance requirements for properties that are impacted by the mapping updates.
